Student Logins

Students log in to their Fort Zumwalt user accounts using their email and password. Students use these credentials for their email addresses, to log in to their Chromebooks, log into district Desktop computers, and to log in to Canvas.

The login is the last name, first name, and day of birth followed by @student.fz.k12.mo.us . The password is the student's lunch pin followed by a capital FZS. For example, if a student's name is John Example, his birthday is 11/22/2005, and his lunchpin were 12345, his login would be:

Login: examplejohn22@student.fz.k12.mo.us
Password: 12345FZS

In a few instances, a student will not need to use the "@student.fz.k12.mo.us" after their name to log in (such as with a district Desktop computer), but the majority of devices will need both pieces of information.

A note about the Chrome browser: The Chrome browser is the preferred browser to use when accessing district assets. Setting up a profile on Chrome is easy to do, and will often remove a step while logging in, since the program will take the credentials directly from the Chrome profile. On a district Chromebook, this is a straightforward process with little interaction needed. However, if a student were to access district sites (SIS, Canvas, etc) from a home computer that had a personal profile attached to it, there is a chance the student would not be able to access the website. Chromebooks

Chromebooks are the 1:1 devices that we use throughout your student's education in the Fort Zumwalt School District. Depending on your student's level, the use of the Chromebooks is different:

Grade Level	Educational Use of the Chromebook
K-2	K-2 Students will have some exposure to their Chromebook, but will not be asked to bring them home.
3-4	Students in 3rd or 4th Grade will begin to use their Chromebooks more frequently. These students may complete more classwork on their Chromebooks, but won't be asked to bring them home.
5th Grade 1:1	New to Fort Zumwalt for the 20-21 School Year, is the 5th Grade 1:1 initiative. In preparation for 6th grade, students will begin using their Chromebooks more frequently, and will be asked to bring them home, and return them to school each day. Students will have a Chromebook specifically assigned to them. Students may do some homework on the Chromebooks, but the focus is to get them comfortable with the device and get them used to the responsibility of bringing the device with them daily.
Middle and High School	Students at the secondary level will be expected to bring their devices to school each day, fully charged, and ready to work. Assignments will be completed on the devices, and homework may be assigned more regularly as students advance through middle and on to high school.

Chromebook devices are subject to the district's firewall, even when on a WiFi network outside of the district.

Focus Parent Portal

The Focus portal is the district's official record for attendance and grades for your student. Prior to logging in the first time, you'll need to fill out the Parent Portal Registration form and return it to school. Your password will be emailed to you, using the address you provided on the form. Once you receive your credentials, you can log in to the parent portal by following this link:

Canvas

Canvas is the district's LMS (Learning Management System) and a way for our instructors to interact digitally with students. Teachers can post links to the internet, deliver content, create assignments, post videos, and start discussions all from within the platform. Students can submit assignments, participate in classroom conversations, create artifacts, and take quizzes, all from one central location.

Canvas looks a little different depending on whether your student is in Elementary School, or has moved up into the Middle School and High School Level, but the core concepts remain nearly the same. Depending on the grade level the instructor has, and the course they are teaching, a teacher may use Canvas to a greater or lesser degree compared to another teacher. Also, teachers may post grades in Canvas for the students and observers to view. It is important to remember that the grade in Canvas is not the student's official grade, as it may not reflect assignments given outside of Canvas or weighted assignments. Only grades posted in the SIS K12 portal are used for progress reports and quarterly grades.

Parents and guardians are able to observe their students in Canvas. To set up an observer account, the parent or guardian will need to go to the Canvas Observer Login page, create an account, and link that account to their student using a provided pairing code. Once the guardian has been linked, they will be able to observe all the student's courses. More detailed directions for setting up and managing observer accounts can be found here.

Classlink, Online Textbooks, & District Apps

The Fort Zumwalt School District uses a variety of Educational Tools. Here is a list of current applications our district utilizes.

Online textbooks and other digital applications can be accessed either through Canvas, Classlink, or both.

Classlink is a "single sign-on" service that connects many district software and cloud accounts to one platform for ease of signing into multiple platforms without needing to input a different username and password for each one.
